Legal Marketing FAQ

How to do marketing for a law firm?

Build law firm marketing from the economics backward. First identify the matters you want, their typical value, your capacity, and the geographic market you can serve. Then research how those clients choose counsel. This prevents the common mistake of buying channels simply because competitors use them.

Create a strong foundation: clear positioning, credible branding, a fast website, persuasive practice pages, attorney profiles, reviews, accurate directory information, and reliable tracking. For local consumer practices, Google Business Profile, local SEO, organic search, paid search, and review generation are often important. Add content, social media, video, PR, events, referrals, or email when they match how your audience makes decisions. Business-focused firms may prioritize LinkedIn, niche thought leadership, referral networks, associations, conferences, and targeted outreach.

Next, fix intake. Calls should be answered promptly, leads should receive consistent follow-up, qualification criteria should be clear, and consultations should be easy to schedule. Track source, lead quality, consultation rate, signed-client rate, case type, revenue, and acquisition cost.

Finally, review your jurisdiction’s attorney advertising rules before publishing. Marketing should be a repeatable system with clear accountability, not a collection of one-off campaigns. Keep what produces profitable, desirable matters; improve or stop what does not.
